The PLUNGE..

Feels like being stuck in a rut? Working a job you don’t want to? Pursuing a career you don’t feel like? Living someone else’s dream while your own get buried deeper everyday? And the fact that you continue to do these despite your subconscious continuously hinting the opposite.

Clearly one cannot live with this feeling everyday. Either the feeling dies or you find a solution to it. So what’s the solution?

Breaking free from your routine, changing the career path midway, dropping college like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or just backpacking across the world trying to find clarity? Sounds romantic, right. Being a trendsetter, leaving the world in awe, doing what you want and living a romanticized life. Taking ‘THE PLUNGE’. No doubt the risk-reward equation works everywhere, even in life. However we forget a critical variable component: the MIGHTY TIME.

Reward = Risk* Time (The influencing factor is time.. Remember this)

But most of us are not able to make that leap despite the innumerable success stories told to us. When so many have done it, why can’t you? For the very simple reason that life’s realities hit you soon and you are back on the ground, your train of dreams derailed. Walking out on responsibilities is not easy and neither appreciated.

Taking ‘THE PLUNGE’ might seem ideal but there’s a reason why it is ideal. This is not to say that one must take risks. One of my close friends did take a leap of faith and has been enormously rewarded in his risk. It works for some but that doesn’t mean that you need to give up on your dreams. Nurture them. Water them daily. Tend to them. Little efforts go a long way. 1% progress everyday is 365% progress in a year.

Remember : “It is better to attempt and fail rather than sit and cry over unfulfilled dreams”.

Difficult the path will be, but keep the below points in mind:

Half the problems starts and ends with emotions. Learn to channelize your emotions in the right direction. Use frustration as a source of motivation. Think and act instead of complaining. You will be surprised at the sea change of your life when you take control of your emotions.

2. Daily Efforts:

Neither was Rome built in a day and neither will our lives change in a day. They require consistent efforts. The madness to keep going when things are difficult. The craziness to pursue your desires when the world keeps pushing you back. All success stories have tons of hard work and unrelenting efforts behind them.

3. Turning off the ear:

Turn off your ears to negativity. Listen to criticism, cherry pick the points that will help you and discard the rest. Smile at the nay-sayers. Your dreams and aspirations are too high for their tiny minds to comprehend.

Note that rejection and dejection will follow. You will be tempted to return to the peaceful comfortable life that exists. But then nothing great was ever achieved by living in the comfort zone. Take failure in stride and forge ahead because life’s too short to just dream. Be crazy. Make mistakes but not the same ones again! Learn! Grow! And make sure to leave your footprints on the sands of time for generations to be inspired by you.
