Wishing for a Storm

Laughter tumbled through the air
The scene's natural sound
Its casual tone, for what lay ahead
Left my heart unprepared
The face flashed brief
But the face flashed bright
Burnt upon my mind
The breath was caught within my throat
Till those eyes again met mine

As the head, it turned
My heart kept count
Of each forever that passed by
And then the face was facing me
And across it was a smile

Over me the feeling rolled
Its tremor shook my bones
My innards were hurled skywards
And settled so firmly on their return
I wasn't sure I'd ever move once more

Amidst the upheaval
A flame had been lit

* * * * *

If the air moved, I didn't feel it
And any sounds were drowned out
By the pounding of my heart in my ears
This moment
Will last but the length of a single word
Yet it will unleash itself across the cosmos
Forming a universe for two
And a home for their little ones

The sound came
A rush of breathe
Gilding over that sweet tongue
And between those two tender lips
I'm not quite sure when that "yes" ended

But it descended roaring over me
Like a crushing waterfall
Against which I struggled to stand
Washing away the uncertainties of the future
And through the water that now filled my eyes
I saw everything, briefly, so very very clear

The sapling nestled into the embrace of the soil
And soaked in the dew

The patter of rain soothed the night
Slowing it to the rhythm
Set by the air entering and leaving her body
Drawn from the gusts of wind
Making her hair dance playfully across my back
Then we saw it, once again
White veins across the suddenly blue sky
Shining for the length of a heartbeat
And we held each other and our breath in awe

After a moment of still silence
Came the noise
It cracked the sky and tore the night
As the universe bellowed its power
At we who were so small

Such beauty
Such power
So far beyond control
Impossible to hold on to
That it should last even a moment longer
To this we are drawn

The storm
in our hearts
