When you walk or drive out to Point Saint George — a couple of miles to the west of Crescent City, California — you’ll see, if you pay attention, a rather tall (now inactive) radio tower. This tower…

Rhino and the CNC Router

My first idea is to create a series of stamps that layer to make one print. I haven’t finished developing the print yet, but I’d like to give the finished piece to my step mother, and she really likes skull art, so I’ll probably do something with skulls and flowers. Below is a sketch of the concept, and an example of a print by another artist.

My second idea is a dice tower with tongue and groove construction. I am interested in exploring constructing things that fit together and also have the ability to hold something. I also think this would be fun to paint and decorate.

My third idea is to cut slices of wood that assemble into a toy house. The house will be in two pieces, walls and a roof, that fit together. A tea light could sit in the house to illuminate it. I think this would be super cute to decorate as well. Below are sketches and an image of the art that inspired this, though she works in clay.

Once I decided to make stamps I did a drawing in procreate of my ideas.

I then broke that into 4 files, One for a frame that I could use to position the stamps, one for each of the 3 stamp layers.

I then brought those drawings into rhino and converted them to vectors.

I cut each piece on the CNC Router.

Then I brought the pieces home to sand. I inked them with black ink first and let them dry so they wouldn’t absorb my next colors.

Using tape, I lined up my frame on the paper, then stamped each layer in a different color, letting the paper dry in between.

After stamping all 3, here is my final image!
